Texas native, Josh Pickering developed a passion for design early on in life. Trained in architecture, and designer by trade, he firmly believes in the unity of the architecture and interiors process. After graduating with a degree in Architecture, he made the immediate shift into the world of interior design. Following time spent in Texas design firms, and then several years working with legendary designer Bunny Williams in New York, Josh established his design firm, Pickering House, in 2016.
Since then, he has completed a wide array of projects - large and small, classic and modern - all of which evoke a sense of calm sophistication that layer the client's personality with uniquely sourced items and bespoke details. Whether it is ground-up or a re-design, large or small, local or afar, Pickering House is equipped to execute each project with finesse. Josh is a perpetual student of design: referring to historical precedent while looking towards what is new and innovative. Throwing oneself into the process by travelling, shopping, studying, drawing, painting, and even sewing, helps to tangibly understand how a room should be put together.
Josh Pickering prides himself on the ability to employ a high/low sensibility. While all things should be carefully curated, every item doesn’t need to steal the show. While some say there is no right or wrong when it comes to design, Josh believes that there is an ideal design for each situation, and that it is our job to discover it. Scale, color, texture, context and relevance all play a role in taking a room, fulfilling the client’s needs, and making a space the best that it can be.
